Audi S1
Built: 2017
| Audi S1 quattro |
This is simply an astonishing car.
The baby of the AudiSport 'S' range, this car is far from a pimped-up regular A1.
Almost entirely redesigned under the skin to accommodate the quattro four-wheel drive system, this car has one of the most powerful variants of the EA888 2-litre turbo engine widely seen across the Audi/VAG/Seat group.
To describe its power, handling and tractibility on the road as 'rewarding' is as understated as to describe nuclear war as detrimental to the countryside.
It's just so much fun given open, country roads such as found widely across France. For example: try the D820 from Souillac to Cassaude in the Dordogne, or the D909 across the Cevennes from Saint-Flour to Mende - both brilliant 'S1' roads.
My car is one of just two-and-a-half-thousand RHD S1s sold in the UK from 2014-18, finished in the relatively rare Vegas Yellow colour scheme with black leather interior. It was supplied originally by Audi Newbury, and has a very detailed service history from new. On its most recent trip to the French Pyrénées its mileage just tripped above 60,000 (March 2025).
In my ownership, all four corners have been treated to Brembo brake discs and pads, and then fitted with premium Bridgestone Potenza tyres (Nov/Dec 23) which the car really seems to like, and match well with the midly uprated and slightly lowered suspension ( H & R german performance products fitted by a previous owner). This tyre+suspension combination provides astonishing grip on the 'twisties', especially in 'dynamic' driving mode selected on the adaptive suspension.
By removal of the black 'wrap' that had been applied by a previous owner to the roof, door mirror caps and the spoiler, my car has very recently been restored to the original and complete Vegas Yellow colour scheme which included gloss black trim along the roof line and black wheels.
Mechanically it has no known faults, with the water pump and thermostat housing recently replaced (at significant cost!) which a common issue with this version of the 2.0 litre VAG group motor. OEM parts were used, which are now known to provide a permanent fix to this fault.

Service History
Detailed below is a summary of the service history of this Audi S1, recorded from new to date. It is of note that the VAG EA888 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine has a timing chain rather than a cambelt so according to the Audi Service Schedule no attention to this aspect of keeping the engine in properly cared-for condition is required.
Full details of the service history are available here.
